Surviving Winter
This project has now been running successfully for several years. We have been involved in identifying elderly people who can't afford to keep warm in winter and making them grants from the Somerset Community Foundation (SCF).
It's one of our most useful and practical projects. This outreach work means we can visit people who are often isolated and out of contact with support services. SCF funds this work by inviting donations from pensioners who do not need their winter fuel payment.
We also check whether they can access other forms of help. For example, from household support funds and energy company schemes. The grants are mainly given between November and April.
