Community Woodland

Community Woodland

West Somerset Green Forum has taken on a license to manage an area of woodland on North Hill in Minehead, which is owned by Exmoor National Park. It is being managed sustainably to improve the wildlife habitat.

Sustainability

We are felling some of the sycamores to produce logs that are sold at a low price to people in fuel poverty. Our work is resulting in an increase in species found in the area and it gives us an opportunity to train volunteers in woodland management and raise awareness in the community about conservation.

We have partnerships with other organisations who use the site for their activities.

Parents and toddlers come to sessions run by Plantlife which is a national charity that is campaigning to save the UK’s threatened plants such as wild flowers and fungi. Men in Sheds, Taunton, have provided bird boxes.

We would like to find more people to work in the woodland, help with admin and engage with groups of people who visit it.
